3. Find your site and walk it before backing in.

Once you are set up, take a short walk around the park to get your bearings, and note where the laundry room is. At our park, the laundry room has two washers and two dryers in an air-conditioned space, and pets and smoking are not allowed inside. The next morning, with fresh energy, you can finish organizing and start building routines.

What to Pack in Your First-Night Bin

A first-night bin keeps you from digging through storage after a long travel day. Pack bedding and pillows, toiletries and towels, a change of clothes, medications, phone chargers, a flashlight or headlamp, basic tools, paper towels, trash bags, simple snacks and bottled water, pet food and bowls, and a few easy meals. Keep the bin somewhere easy to reach, like a front seat or near the RV door. When you finish setup and feel tired, everything you need for a comfortable first night will be in one place.

Weather and Arrival Day

Texas weather can affect travel plans. Summer afternoons can bring heat and pop-up thunderstorms, and heavy rain can slow traffic around Houston. Check the forecast the day before and the morning of your trip. If severe weather is expected, consider adjusting your departure time or arriving a day later, and let the park know. Setting up in heavy rain or lightning is unpleasant and unsafe.
